The paintings of Sal Vasquez have a western
influence, the artist's oils are inspired by cowboys
and rodeos. After 35 years in commercial art Sal
retired a few years ago, but didn't retire from art.
Although he paints landscapes, Vasquez's obvious
loves are horses and western life.
"I enjoy the challenge painting horses," he said.
"They are incredible animals-very strong, regal
and intelligent animals. "And they all have their
own personalities. And I try to capture that
personality in my paintings.
"His "We got'em cornered!" which shows a
cowgirl and her horse cornering a small herd of
calves, won a third place medal in 2006 at the
the Grand National Rodeo at the Cow Palace in
the San Francisco Bay Area.
