The paintings of Sal Vasquez have a western influence, the artist's oils are inspired by cowboys and rodeos. After 35 years in
commercial art Sal retired a few years ago, but didn't retire from art. Although he paints landscapes, Vasquez's obvious loves are
horses and western life. I enjoy the challenge of painting horses, "he said". Horses are incredible animals, they all have their own
personalities. I try to capture that personality in my paintings.
His" We got'em cornered" which shows a cowgirl and her horse cornering a small herd of calves, won a third place medal in 2008
at the Grand National Rodeo at the Cow Palace in the San Francisco bay area and also a third place award in the 2008 Horses in
Art magazine competition.
